With the Sanctuary’s incredible acoustics, grand piano and Casavant organ, the music can become part of what makes your ceremony uniquely yours.

Sanctuary

The completely accessible main Sanctuary (with a reconstructed chancel area, completed in 2015) seats 475 in pews with a possible addition of 50 seats with added chairs. The beautiful cathedral has seating both on the main floor as well as on the mezzanine.

WEDDING FAQ’s

  • Not at all. St. Matthews Centre welcomes couples from all backgrounds. You’re also welcome to bring your own officiant.

  • Absolutely. Our Sanctuary is known for its beautiful acoustics and features a grand piano and Casavant organ. Through our partnership with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, we can also help you explore professional musicians for your ceremony, from a solo musician to a string quartet or larger ensemble.

  • Yes of course! Please note that real petals are not allowed to be thrown in the sanctuary. Absolutely no thumbtacks, nails, etc. may be used for decorating anywhere in the church. Confetti and rice are prohibited for exit from church. Candles are permitted but must be completely enclosed in containers.

  • Yes. Our Sanctuary and Chapel offer two very different ceremony settings, while our Community Hall and Fellowship Hall can accommodate receptions and celebrations. We can help you determine which combination works best for your guest list and plans.description

  • Yes. Alcohol may be served with the appropriate licensing, insurance and responsible service requirements. We’ll walk you through what’s needed.

  • Yes. We have accessible entrances, power doors and lift access between the main levels of the building. The Sanctuary also has an assistive listening system for guests who are hard of hearing.

  • There is accessible parking at the Centre, with additional public parking available nearby in downtown Kitchener. We can provide parking and entrance information to share with your guests before the wedding. Check out our CONTACT US page form more detailed information

  • Yes. Our downtown location puts your guests close to accommodations, restaurants and other amenities. We also have partnerships with two nearby hotels that can offer added convenience for St. Matthews wedding couples and their guests.

  • Of course. In fact, we recommend it. The scale of the Sanctuary and the character of the building are difficult to capture in photographs.
